Understanding departure reason visibility

Why a departure reason may be empty depending on the date observed in Reflect.

Written by Reflect Team

In Reflect, Departure reason uses your company’s own label for the end of a contract. Departure reason type is its normalized category.

At a given date, these values can be displayed through the day after the contract ends, inclusive. After that date, they are empty for the situation being observed. This does not mean the reason was erased from the source or from every past date.

How does this affect my analyses?

An analysis or filter by reason can produce different results depending on the date observed. For example, if a contract ended on March 31, a known reason can still appear on April 1; it is empty for a situation observed on April 2. The display also depends on the data available for the person and date selected.

To analyze departures by reason, choose a period and departure measure suited to your question. Check the date used by the measure before comparing results. For the difference between HR and Finance departure dates, see Definition of Departures: HR vs Finance.

What should I check if a reason is missing?

Check the date observed, the contract end date and the reason provided by your HR software. For the reason type, also check its normalization in Reflect. If the value is still missing on the expected date, contact your Reflect team with the period and employee concerned.
