Understanding the “Reopened job” rule

Understand when Reflect uses a new job opening date and how it affects your figures.

Written by Reflect Team

Reflect may use a new opening date for a job after a long gap between application updates. This date can change the job’s displayed time-to-fill figures.

When does the date change?

Reflect compares the dates of consecutive eligible application updates associated with the same job. If they are more than 100 calendar days apart, Reflect may use the date of the second update as a new job opening date. A gap of exactly 100 days does not trigger the rule.

An update is eligible if its normalized stage is “Profile selected” (displayed as “Application screened” in analyses), interview, “Offer made” or “Offer accepted”, and no rejection date is recorded. Other updates are not included in this comparison. Both updates can belong to the same application.

For example, an application has eligible updates on January 1 and April 12, 2025, with no other eligible update in between. Reflect may use April 12 as the new opening date.

How does this affect the figures?

The new opening date can change the job’s end dates and durations calculated from its opening, including time to first fill, time to fill and days since opening. The rule does not itself change the job’s status in your recruitment tool.

What should I check if a figure looks wrong?

Check the dates and application updates for the job in your recruitment tool, as well as stage normalization in Reflect. If the discrepancy remains, contact your Reflect representative with the job, source and date range concerned.

This rule applies to the job. For an application’s start date, see Understanding reopened applications.
